LIGHT
JOG AROUND THE OVAL |
Distance
depends on a teams fitness level |
STRETCHES
|
Younger
players need to be told which stretches to do |
Older
players can do their own stretches particular to their needs |
FITNESS
|
|
Devise
several games/drills that increase one’s fitness level |
 |
-
skipping ropes are a great idea |
Run
length of court and pitter/patter 20 times on each third |
Play
tag in the circle but hopping only
|
Zig
Zag around each other whilst running around the outline of the court
|
Younger
ones can play Pac Man using the court outlines |
BALL
PASSING DRILLS |
Up
& down the court passing the ball, without stepping & using good
passes |
Up
& down the court, with 3 players, doing a figure eight. |
 |
ONE
ON ONE |
quick
decisive passes whilst the catcher pitter/patters |
-
close passes that make the catcher stretch with moving only one foot |
|
TEAM
WORK DRILLS |
Two
lines - one attack & one defence – breaking towards a thrower using
different types of defence or breaking |
|
Do
Circle Work – teaching both attacks & defence |
Practice
full length plays on the court eg backline throw ins |
|
 |
HINTS |
ALWAYS
come with a training plan and be decisive – the players do appreciate it |
ENSURE
that all players stretch properly – it can save injuries |
|
WATCH
other coaches and use their drills or ideas – it doesn’t hurt anyone |
|
BE
ON TIME – try to arrive before the players whenever possible |
Don’t let the
players hang around talking – they do get bored easily |
It is sometimes
easier to work on one area at a training session eg attacking |
|
If
players become unsettled , call for a 5 min ‘social’ break (usually at
half-time) |
